How-to tutorials
Your injection,
step by step
Short tutorials filmed with our clinical team, plus everything worth having ready before you start — so your first dose at home feels routine rather than daunting.
Set up once, and the rest is easy
Lay everything out on a clean, flat surface before you open anything. Having it all within reach is most of what makes an injection feel straightforward.
- Your prescribed vial or ampoule
- A new, sterile syringe and needle
- Alcohol prep pads
- Clean, dry hands
- A sharps container within reach
- Your dose and schedule from your provider
Check the label, the strength and the expiry date every time, and look at the liquid before you draw it up. If anything looks different from last time, pause and call us before you inject.
Subcutaneous injection
The one most of our patients use. The medication goes into the layer of fat just under the skin, using a short, fine needle — usually in the abdomen or the back of the arm.
What this video covers
- Cleaning the vial top and drawing up your dose
- Clearing the air from the syringe
- Choosing a site, and why you rotate it
- The pinch, and the angle to hold the needle at
- Delivering the dose slowly and steadily
- Capping nothing — straight into the sharps container
Intramuscular injection
Some medications need to go deeper, into the muscle itself. The needle is longer and the angle is different, but the preparation is the same — and it is over just as quickly.
What this video covers
- Prepping the vial and drawing up your dose
- Swapping to the injecting needle
- Finding the right spot on the thigh or glute
- Going in at ninety degrees, in one movement
- Injecting at a slow, even pace
- Pressure afterwards, and safe disposal
After your dose
The two minutes after matter too
Nothing complicated — just the habits that keep each dose clean, your medication working, and your household safe.
Right after the needle
Press gently with a clean pad — don’t rub. A small bead of blood or a little redness is normal. Note the site you used so the next dose goes somewhere else.
Storing your medication
Follow the storage instructions that came in your package — some of our compounds are refrigerated, others are not. Keep everything out of direct light and out of reach of children.
Sharps disposal
Used needles go straight into a sharps container — never a household bin, and never recapped. When it is full, your pharmacy or county drop-off can take it.
Making it a habit
By the third week you won’t think about it
01Pick a day and keep it
Same day, same time, same spot in the house. A standing reminder on your phone does more for your results than willpower does.
02Rotate your sites
Moving the site each time gives the tissue a chance to recover and keeps absorption consistent. Left, then right, then somewhere new.
03Keep a short log
Date, dose, site, and how you felt that week. Two lines is plenty, and it makes your follow-up far more useful.
04Bring us the odd ones
Lingering soreness, a lump that doesn’t settle, a dose you missed — tell your provider. None of it is unusual, and all of it is easier to sort out early.
