What is BHRT?
Hormone fluctuations mark a pivotal shift in every woman’s and every man’s lifelong health journey — and they rarely arrive overnight. This page explains what bioidentical hormone replacement therapy is, how it differs from conventional HRT, and what starting it actually involves.
The short answer
BHRT replaces the hormones your body has stopped making enough of, using hormones that are structurally identical to your own — prescribed from your lab work by a licensed provider.
The definition
“Bioidentical” means molecularly identical to the hormones your body already makes.
That single difference is what the whole therapy turns on. Because a bioidentical hormone matches the structure of the one your body would produce itself, your body recognizes it and uses it the same way — which is why these hormones have a high compatibility rate and are considered appropriate for long-term use.
BHRT is prescribed for women and men. What it is not is a single pill at a single dose: your panel decides which hormones are involved, how much, and in what form.
How it differs
Bioidentical vs. conventional HRT
Both aim to correct a hormone deficit. They differ in what they put back, and in how closely the plan is matched to the person taking it.
Conventional HRT
- Synthetic or animal-derived hormones that approximate, but do not match, your own
- Standard doses from a fixed range of products
- Often a single hormone, treated in isolation
- Usually oral, whether or not that suits the hormone
- Follow-up driven by symptoms alone
Bioidentical HRT at Amazing Meds
- Hormones structurally identical to the ones your body makes
- Dose set from your own lab panel, then adjusted
- Up to eight hormones read together as one system
- Topical, capsule or injection — chosen for absorption and safety
- Re-tested at 8 weeks and reviewed with your provider
Getting ahead of changes
Hormone changes rarely happen overnight
Shifts build over months or even years, which is why the symptoms are so easy to write off as ordinary aging. Across those stages, hormonal change can meaningfully affect your mood, your sex drive and your day-to-day wellbeing.
Taking charge begins with knowing what your own hormones are actually doing — which is where a full panel, and a provider who reads it properly, come in.
What imbalance feels like
You don’t have to live with these symptoms anymore
If these sound familiar, imbalanced hormones may be shaping your quality of life more than you realize. A panel tells you which ones, and by how much.
- Weight gain
- Low energy
- Mood swings
- Hot flashes
- Hair loss
- Brain fog
- Low libido
- Poor sleep
The panel
Female hormones we focus on
A full female hormone optimization panel gives an exact picture of these eight and how any imbalance may be affecting your day-to-day wellness. That panel is what your treatment plan is built from.
Estrogen
An important hormone for supporting overall health and happiness. In adequate supply, estrogen is essential for avoiding the unwanted symptoms of imbalance.
Progesterone
Regulates your menstrual cycle and keeps other hormonal activity in check. It also helps stabilize mood, brain function and energy levels.
Testosterone
Just as important for women as it is for men. In a woman’s body it fuels sex drive and improves your ability to build and maintain lean muscle.
DHEA
Healthy levels are considered a key indicator of longevity and a lower incidence of disease. It is also the most plentiful sex hormone in the body.
Thyroid
A vital gland and a hub for many critical functions. It and its associated hormones drive your metabolism and keep your endocrine system working properly.
Growth Hormone
Responsible for cellular growth, rejuvenation and repair. Every cell, organ and system in your body relies on it.
Cortisol
The stress hormone that releases adrenaline under pressure. It serves a practical purpose, but too much contributes to a host of negative symptoms.
Oxytocin
A chemical messenger tied to conception, childbirth and lactation — and to connection and intimacy. We like to call it the love hormone.

Questions
Frequently asked questions
Still deciding? These are the questions patients ask us most before they start.
Is there a limit to how long I can stay on BHRT once I start?
There is no limit to how long you can stay on hormone treatments if you are happy with the results. One main purpose of the 8-week follow up with our medical staff is to make sure the prescribed treatments are working well for patients. Our medical staff is always here to continue to follow up and adjust the treatment plan to best meet your needs long-term.
What makes your medications different from birth control or something my gynecologist would prescribe me?
The hormones we provide are bioidentical; this means they are much safer for long-term use. Bioidentical hormones have a high compatibility rate, meaning they act nearly identically to the hormones your body would naturally produce. That high compatibility rate is ideal, because your body is more likely to fully utilize the hormones, resulting in optimization of your overall health.
Why topical treatment vs. injections?
We believe in giving our patients maximum benefits while simultaneously minimizing overall risk. Some medications are more effectively and safely absorbed into the skin topically than they are entering the body via capsules or injections.
Can I pay monthly for an HRT treatment plan?
Yes. We do offer monthly installment plans for your treatments.
What exactly is hormone optimization and why is it important?
Hormone optimization involves balancing hormone levels in the body to improve overall health and well-being. Hormones play a crucial role in various bodily functions, including metabolism, mood, energy levels and sexual function. When hormone levels are imbalanced it can lead to a range of symptoms and health issues. Optimizing your hormones can help alleviate these unwanted symptoms and improve your quality of life.
How do I know if I’m a good candidate for hormone replacement therapy?
You may be a good candidate if you are experiencing common symptoms related to hormone imbalance such as fatigue, hair loss, low libido, unusual weight fluctuation, joint pain, skin irritations, sudden mood changes, a spike in anxiety and/or depression, and sleep disturbances. Our providers will take note of all symptoms, evaluate your medical history, run labs, go over the results with you, determine proper treatment and follow up on results.
How long does it take to see the results of hormone replacement therapy?
The timeline can vary depending on the individual and the type of hormone being replaced. Some patients see improvement in symptoms within a week, while others take a few months. In general, it is common for patients to see results within 2 weeks.
Does insurance cover the cost of hormone replacement therapy?
Insurance coverage for hormone replacement therapy can vary depending on your plan and specific circumstances. We recommend you check with your insurance provider to determine if HRT is covered under your plan, and that you call and check with Amazing Meds staff about our acceptance of your specific coverage.
What happens after my consult?
After the consult, we’ll send you a patient-intake form. Once you complete it, we’ll schedule your telehealth evaluation with our board-certified doctor. You are under no obligation to move forward — our medical team is only here to support you if you wish to receive bioidentical hormone therapy via telemedicine.

What our influencers are saying
★★★★★
I went to my doctor recently with questions regarding hormone replacement and she spent about 5 minutes explaining my options. This was very frustrating, so I decided to schedule a complimentary consultation with Amazing Meds. Brooke was so helpful and took her time explaining all my labs and my options for BHRT.
